I primarily work with teenagers directly. That being said, I understand most teenagers are still operating within a larger family unit and it is a consideration in treatment.
Parent and family involvement varies when working with teens based on the needs of the client, home environment, living arrangements, and other factors. This does sometimes include parent/family sessions.
My goal when working with teenagers is to identify and support the appropriate level of parent/family involvement without shifting focus of care away from them.
