Looking at relationships
Many of us, especially those that are anxious in relationships, can already identify the patterns in their relationships.
Patterns like how you avoid conflict, what it feels like when someone gets too close or too far,
and how responsible you feel for other people in your life.
The Patterns
What feels risky in connection?
Relational risks are the imagined outcomes that result from being close to someone. Being rejected, being too needy, being left.
Sometimes we have a hard time right-sizing the risk — it feels bigger than it is. When this happens, we try to manage it.
The way we try to manage it don’t always work. It might even be in the way of the relationships we want.
Holding back your needs so you aren’t too much
Staying alert for changes in others texts, tone, or behavior
Assuming any changes must be about you
Feeling responsible for the relationship or it’ll fall apart
Confusing independence and avoidance
